Mellieha, Malta

Spring is the perfect time to visit the fascinating island of Malta as the temperature is mild and ideal for exploring all the amazing historical sites, fortified cities, palaces, museums and galleries. 

We are to be located in Mellieha in the north of the island. Mellieha is a popular family resort with good bus connections to the rest of the island. Malta has a spectacular coastline and Mellieha Bay boasts the longest stretch of sandy beach where the water is warm enough to swim most of the year. The site of Paul’s shipwreck is reputed to have happened off the coast of Mellieha at St Paul’s Island.

A day trip to Gozo (the second largest of three inhabited Maltese islands) is arranged, travelling by private bus, and incorporated into the cost of the holiday. The trip includes exploring the capital of Victoria with its dramatic Citadel (an ancient fortified city) and visiting the Ggantija archaeological park (a UNESCO World Heritage site which has ancient monuments dating back to 3600 BC). 

There are so many worthwhile and fascinating historical places to visit and experience stepping back in time. You might want to explore the fortress city of Valletta, which is also a World Heritage Site, with its narrow-cobbled streets and historic buildings. Medina, also known as “The Silent City” is a fascinating medieval fortress town and Malta’s first capital with its incredible hilltop setting and fabulous views. Or you might want to visit the impressive Mosta Dome, a magnificent church with the third largest unsupported dome in the world. Please note that any other tours, or entry to places of interest, will be additional to the cost of this holiday. 

We are to stay at the Pergola Hotel and Spa in Mellieha, a spacious 4-star comfortable hotel with all modern facilities and lifts. There are a spa and wellness centre and three pools (one of which is indoor). Please note there is a long walk from the hotel to the beach with a steep return, but there is a frequent local bus service.
