Ruth & Sandy Finlay
They say that Northern Ireland and its people are favourites of theirs. Sandy has hugely happy memories of summer holidays spent there.
They enjoy being active members of Free North church in Inverness and enjoy spending time with family and friends, and being involved with sport and music.
Why not join us for an autumnal break to Belfast, the main city and principal port of Northern Ireland. Belfast is a vibrant city, bordered on three sides by hills and mountains and the Irish Sea to the east. The city is blessed with over 70 parks, including the beautiful Botanic Gardens - which has exotic plants from all over the world – and the Sir Thomas and Lady Dixon Park which has more than 45,000 roses, some very rare. A number of the city’s parks have achieved Green Flag Award status which recognises the best open spaces in the UK, so you will be spoilt for choice. For the more adventurous, you might want the challenge of the Forest Flyover zipline in Colin Glen, or you could cycle the Lagan Towpath to Lisburn. The city has a rich maritime history and the symbol of the city is a seahorse, which appears on its coat of arms. Belfast is indelibly connected with RMS Titanic, as this famous ship was constructed there in the early 1900s. You can learn the story of the ship’s construction, launch and it’s fated maiden voyage by visiting the amazing Titanic Belfast experience, which was named as one of the world’s leading tourist attractions.
Clive Staples Lewis, the revered author and theologian, was born in east Belfast in 1898, and you can follow a self-guided trail which takes you to locations connected with his early life and to the C S Lewis Square, where you will see seven bronze sculptures from The Chronicles of Narnia.
To get a taste for the city, and explore every district, we will take a hop-on hop-off bus tour, which is included in the cost of your holiday. This can take you to all the main landmarks and attractions including: Titanic Belfast, the Ulster Museum, the Crumlin Road Gaol and the Peace walls. Any other tours, and entry to other places of interest, will be additional to the cost of the holiday.
Our hotel, the 4-star city-centre Holiday Inn, is a few minutes’ walk from the new Belfast Grand Central Station, where you can get trains or buses to other parts of the province, such as Derry or the Giant’s Causeway.
